Zephyr is a physical ranged DPS job arriving in Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold

Square Enix have revealed Zephyr, a crossbow-wielding physical ranged DPS, as the second new job for Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold, which launches on 23 February 2027. Pre-orders open on 4 November.

Final Fantasy XIV’s next expansion finally has a release date. During the Fan Festival 2026 keynote in Tokyo, producer and director Naoki Yoshida confirmed that Evercold launches on Tuesday, 23 February 2027. In addition, Square Enix also revealed the second of the game's two new jobs.

It's called Zephyr, and it's a physical ranged DPS that fights with a crossbow and gets support from an avian familiar called Nephele. It’s the first ranged job in a while to come with a companion, and judging by the trailer, the bird does more than just look pretty. Square Enix also released a full-length Evercold trailer during the keynote.

Evercold release date, early access and pre-orders

Pre-orders for Evercold open on Wednesday 4 November 2026 at 9:00 GMT. The expansion is coming to Windows, Mac, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and Steam.

Players who pre-order get early access, currently scheduled for Friday 19 February 2027 at 9:00 GMT, four days before launch. Pre-orders also include a Wind-Up Köttr minion and Halone’s Earring, which scales to your job and level and gives a 30% EXP boost from defeating enemies. Because pre-order items are delivered straight away, you can use the earring to level jobs up to 100 before Evercold arrives.

Final Fantasy XIV passes 35 million accounts

Square Enix also announced that Final Fantasy XIV has passed 35 million registered accounts worldwide. That’s certainly an impressive figure for a game whose original 2010 launch went so badly that it was rebuilt from scratch as A Realm Reborn in 2013. Evercold is the follow-up to 2024’s Dawntrail and will be the MMO’s sixth expansion.
