Ubisoft announced that xDefiant was originally meant to be released at the end of August 2023 but that obviously didn't happen.
The reason was that the game didn't pass the compliance tests for Sony and Microsoft's consoles, meaning the devs didn't get the green light to release on those platforms until the issues are resolved.
This led to more patches and the new best-case scenario is that the game will release in mid-to-late September.
However, there is a real possibility these wishes will not materialise since it appears the devs still have to iron out quite a few issues that are holding the game back on consoles.
The way it looks right now, the game will have to wait until early to mid-October 2023 in order to give the devs enough time to prepare a day-one patch.
Keep in mind that the devs still don't feel like providing an exact release date so it's not out of the realm of possibility that another launch date change will happen, be it a delay or moving it forward.
In any case, the team is swearing by their vision of delivering a finished product where player feedback will be valued. Now it only remains to be seen if these are just corporate buzzwords or if the words will ring true.
