Rainbow Six Siege is probably the most successful live service title in Ubisoft's portfolio. Released in 2015, the tactical first-person shooter grew into a full-fledged competitive shooter with a ranked mode and a lively esports scene.
Throughout the game's lifecycle, Ubisoft has released countless updates to polish the game's quality of life. While Rainbow Six Siege has come a long way, it seems like Ubisoft is shifting the game towards a new direction.
This coming June 10, Ubisoft is officially releasing a free major update for Rainbow Six Siege titled Rainbow Six Siege X. The new major update for the game will feature new game mechanic changes, audio improvements, and more. Here's a detailed look at what players can expect to see in Rainbow Six Siege X.
Rainbow Six Siege X 101
Rainbow Six Siege X is Ubisoft's grand attempt at improving the game by addressing various in-game issues, including audio changes and game mechanics. Here's a complete overview of what you can expect to see in the upcoming major update:
New 6v6 Game Mode: Dual Front
Dual Front is a unique, permanent 6v6 game mode set on a new map and with new gameplay elements, such as in-match events and respawns. The game mode combines attackers and defenders and their abilities in ways never before seen, as your team attempts to secure and defend sectors. From gameplay intel, it is clear that the Dual Front mode is a heavily modified version of the Domination or Conquer game modes from Call of Duty and Battlefield.

Dual Front Game ModeModernized Maps

Aside from being a technical update, Rainbow Six Siege X also modernises the game's core maps. This includes visual enhancement to classic Siege maps, with new lighting, shadows and 4K textures. Modernised maps at launch will include Clubhouse, Chalet, Border, Bank and Kafe.
Advanced Rappel
Rappelling is a core mechanic of Rainbow Six Siege, and it has remained untouched since the game's release. With the Rainbow Six Siege X update, for a more realistic and immersive experience, rappel navigation is enhanced with smoother and improved controls, allowing for horizontal running and jumping around building corners.

Advanced RappelNew Pick and Ban System

The new Pick and Ban System allows both teams to adapt their strategy between rounds. Now, both teams simultaneously ban one enemy operator per round, stacking up to six operator bans in a match until team roles swap and the banned operators reset.
New Esports Tab
This new section gives esports a home inside Siege for the first time, highlighting live matches and outlining the schedule so you can stay up to date without leaving the main menu. The Esports Tab will continue to evolve throughout the year.

New Esports TabUnranked Mode

Standard mode is removed from playlists, and Unranked is now back for all players above Clearance Level 20. Unranked is the equivalent of Ranked in terms of rounds, timers, Pick and Ban, and general settings.
Audio System Overhaul
Audio cues are the most crucial gameplay mechanic in Rainbow Six Siege. With the new Rainbow Six Siege X update, reverb and propagation modifications will help players pinpoint where and how far something could be, making audio cues more accurate.
