Shriekers are real and they are finally here

The developers of Helldivers 2 finally acknowledged the existence of flying bugs and resolved the galaxy map glitches in a totally unexpected way that no one saw coming.

While Helldivers 2 continues to captivate players with its gameplay, it's not without its share of bugs. Recently, players have encountered major issues with the galaxy map, affecting their ability to track the progress of the war.

On top of this, after Arrowhead's recent March 2024 update for Helldivers 2, a menacing new adversary emerged known as Shriekers. These airborne threats have begun to dominate the skies, launching devastating assaults from above.

What makes this interesting is that the very idea of these Shriekers goes against the statement made by the CEO of Arrowhead a while back.

"I've heard rumours of flying bugs in Helldivers 2. I want to officially refute such preposterous claims. Everyone knows that 'Bugs can't fly'. And I'm not alone in thinking this. The Ministry of Truth agrees that this is propaganda from bug sympathisers that want to brainwash good people." -Johan Pilestedt

How did the developers deal with the Galactic War Map glitch?

In a unique and bold approach, the developers at Arrowhead have chosen to address these issues within the game's narrative. Rather than simply stating that they've fixed the problem with the Galaxy Map and are working on overall gameplay improvements like they usually do with every update. This time, they're pretending as if these issues are part of the game's canon.

Dispatch Statement: "A recent systems security breach has resulted in Galactic War tables displaying inaccurate information. The breach has been addressed, and all systems have been returned to normal operation. Any discrepancies are to be considered the result of dissident misinformation. Rest assured that the parties responsible have been identified, arrested, tried, and executed."

In a recent in-game dispatch, Super Earth reported that a group of Dissidents were responsible for the issues with our systems. Fortunately, authorities have apprehended them and administered justice for their crimes.

It's almost obvious that the developers are taking on the role of the fictional Ministry of Truth in Helldivers 2.  Also, through the appointment of a developer to serve as a game master and interact with players regarding their opinions and progression, Arrowhead demonstrated a genuine commitment to making their game truly exceptional.

How did the fans react?

Gamers took this rather positively, and on top of that, they are playing along with this charade. They have even expressed their appreciation for how Arrowhead is dealing with things. When a game can create this level of immersion into its storyline, not just with the gameplay but also with how it deals with bugs and glitches, it showcases its creativity and ability to adapt as well.

Devs finally confirm the existence of Shriekers

Despite the numerous declarations asserting that bugs cannot and will never fly, Super Earth has finally acknowledged the existence of Shriekers. Even when presented with photographic evidence, they dismissed the sightings and accused the players of being bug sympathisers. The director of Arrowhead himself posted, stating that Shriekers are merely propaganda.

But now, the situation with flying bugs in Helldivers 2 has spiralled out of control. The Ministry of Truth can no longer deny the undeniable. In an in-game dispatch, they finally admitted the existence of Shriekers.

A sudden emergence of these airborne Terminids has occurred across all Terminid planets without any prior warning or indication. While the Ministry of Intelligence had always considered this a possibility, the abrupt evolution suggests the potential involvement of dissidents.

Now, the new mission directives now task us with hunting down these Shriekers as they are indeed real, and our objective is clear: exterminate them.

However, it seems as if the Ministry doesn't really care about the frontline Helldivers. If they really did care, then they would've acknowledged those who died fighting off these winged monsters without preparation or gear. It almost seems like the Helldivers are just disposable pawns paid to do one thing they are the best at, and that is killing bugs.
