For months, Helldivers 2 players have been reporting sightings of cloaked warships and blue lasers, hinting at the emergence of a mysterious enemy known as the Illuminate. This new threat, rumoured to be tougher than the Automatons and Terminid, is poised to enter the galactic war.
Renowned leaker IronS1ghts has unveiled the first glimpse of this enigmatic foe, offering a more detailed look than ever before. Described as aquatic, squid-like creatures with mouths composed of writhing tentacles, they possess a distinct blue gem embedded in their foreheads, likely serving as their weak point.
However, overcoming the Illuminate will not be simple, as they employ advanced energy shields for defence. Landing a decisive blow may require resorting to traditional orbital strikes.
Who are the Illuminate?
The Illuminate, or Squi'ith, represents an ancient alien civilization adorned in ceremonial robes, wielding psionic barriers and projectiles. Their mastery of advanced cloaking technology enables them to vanish from sight on the battlefield, casting ominous shadows with their unseen warships.
Although the Illuminate once offered Super Earth a peace treaty in the original game, the government's refusal stemmed from fear of their devastating obliterator bombs. Despite claims of extinction by 2184, evidence suggests they still lurk in the shadows, observing humanity.
Signs of their presence, including cloaked ships and psionic weaponry, have already surfaced in Helldivers 2, and additionally, intercepted broadcasts hint at encounters with troopers encountering "tentacles," reminiscent of the Illuminate.
The exact timing of their arrival remains uncertain, but with ongoing data mining efforts revealing more information, they will likely join the galactic conflict soon. In the meantime, players must contend with the escalating threats posed by the Automatons and Terminid, who rapidly expand their influence, unleashing chaos in their wake.
