Things have yet to settle down in the Helldivers 2 community as they faced a major setback with the whole PSN Account Connecting controversy, where Sony proposed a system requiring PC players to create and link a PlayStation Network account.
Even though that decision was met with backlash, it led to review bombings on Steam and the game being delisted in over 150 countries. Despite this, Arrowhead remains committed to regaining the lost momentum.
A Helldivers 2 player found dialogue claiming Super Earth is building a "superweapon," leading some to think the leaked planet explosion may occur soon. It's been hectic for Helldivers 2 players this week, following the failure of a Major Order to wipe out 2 billion Automatons.
Unlike the goal to eliminate 2 billion Terminids, players couldn't complete this one, forcing Super Earth to reveal that the game's conflict was an "elaborate special operation" and declare that the "Second Galactic War" has begun.
What do we know so far?
First spotted by Reddit user MaikySvK, if you chat with a crew member aboard your Super Destroyer, they might mention a rumour about a "secret superweapon being worked on by our top scientists."
With such an ominous and mysterious statement, fans have started theorizing, and many were reminded of a leak earlier this year showing an exploding planet. Since then, players have speculated how developer Arrowhead might create something capable of destroying an entire planet. This new war escalation could bring it about.
Some players think it could be another vehicle, like the leaked APCs, but given that nukes, mechs, and heavy weaponry are standard, the term "superweapon" likely refers to something much bigger. It was also theorized that this potential planet-cracking event could introduce the highly rumoured Illuminate faction, indicating a rough ride ahead in the coming weeks.
