Last month, prominent leaker and dataminer IronS1ghts provided our first glimpse of the Illuminate in Helldivers 2 with an image of a disembodied head featuring a glowing blue gem. Now, we have better pictures showcasing one of their full models.
A Reddit post from IronS1ghts reveals their ceremonial armour and weaponry, a departure from the robes they wore in the original game, indicating a more serious approach in the Second Galactic War. This is concerning given their technological superiority over Super Earth.
What do we know so far?
IronS1ghts elaborated on the Illuminate's weaponry, describing the staff, known as the 'LightSpear,' which can be used in melee and ranged combat, firing a beam of light if necessary. Additionally, there's a two-handed heavy weapon referred to as the axe.
Last month, a leaked broadcast featured a Helldiver screaming about tentacles as they died, hinting at the Illuminate. Subsequently, dataminers uncovered various in-game models, including the Squi'ith themselves and their weapons like the Summoner's Whip and Gauntlet.
These discoveries have continued to grow over the past weeks, suggesting that developer Arrowhead is gearing up to introduce this highly advanced aquatic species soon.
Who are the Illuminate?
The Illuminate, or Squi'ith, represents an ancient alien civilization adorned in ceremonial robes, wielding psionic barriers and projectiles. Their mastery of advanced cloaking technology enables them to vanish from sight on the battlefield, casting ominous shadows with their unseen warships.
With the Second Galactic War underway, community manager Katherine 'Baskinator' Baskin's statement that "all conflict leading up to this was merely an elaborate special operation" implies the Illuminate's introduction to raise the difficulty level.
They possess advanced capabilities, including cloaking technology and blue laser weaponry. In the previous game, they could turn invisible on the battlefield and use energy shields to deflect attacks, making them even more formidable than the Automatons.
The exact timing of their arrival remains uncertain, but with ongoing data mining efforts revealing more information, they will likely join the galactic conflict soon. In the meantime, players must contend with the escalating threats posed by the Automatons and Terminid, who rapidly expand their influence, unleashing chaos in their wake.
