Guns & Dragons combines FPS combat, roguelite progression, and magical weapons in a fantasy world. A Steam playtest begins July 30.

Guns & Dragons is described as being an odd fusion of concepts: classic FPS gameplay married with roguelite progression systems and set within a magical gun-fantasy world.

This fantasy shooter from ABUTTON Inc. sees players drop into fantasy worlds armed with guns and bows, only to unlock the ability to craft much stranger builds as they upgrade their weapons and abilities.

Shown off in a new gameplay trailer, Guns & Dragons gameplay appears to be focused around hectic gunplay, exploration, and trying out as wild a combination of weapons as players can think up. Runs will take players through monster-infested caverns, dungeons, and villages as they slaughter enemies with firearms and fantasy powers alike.

Guns & Dragons avoid permanent loadouts in favor of upgrading weapons each run and crafting new combinations through runes, artifacts, and other magical upgrades players find.

Players can take on Guns & Dragons alone or with up to three friends in cooperative play, allowing for wild builds to either be experimented with solo or combined with others for even more outlandish combinations.

A basic firearm can turn into a vastly overpowered weapon with the right upgrades during a run. When not blowing holes in fantastical beasts, players will be able to upgrade their base and build new upgrades to tackle future runs. As players progress farther in Guns & Dragons, they’ll need to keep experimenting with weapon and upgrade combinations to survive against stronger enemies.

The goofy-fantasy shooter clearly doesn’t want to be taken too seriously, but players can still expect a challenge in combat. Enemies and bosses will grow more powerful and provide a greater challenge to gauge how overpowered players’ builds are.

The first Guns & Dragons Steam playtest will be available between July 30 and August 10 for players to get a jumpstart on this fantasy FPS. Guns & Dragons is available now on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store in early access.
