Guild Wars franchise has reached a chunky milestone, although it may not be as big as it seems at first.
NCSoft recently posted a look back at Guild Wars 2 's achievements but eventually extended them to the franchise instead of just sticking with the second entry in the series.
Namely, ArenaNet 's MMO was voted Game of the Year in several places, possibly owing to the fact it's hard to find a game in the genre without a subscription fee, no pay-to-win incentives or other underhanded tactics while also keeping the game somewhat polished.
Among those achievements is also the mention that Guild Wars as a franchise exceeded $700 million in revenue .
At first, the number looks huge but you also have to remember the series kicked almost two decades ago, all the way in 2004.
Through the two games combined, it has sadly managed to grab only a fraction of the revenue from games that were ruled by ruthless monetisation schemes.
For example, World of Warcraft is estimated to have earned over $14 billion by 2022.
Regardless, NCSoft greenlit another expansion for the game shortly after End of Dragons arrived, which is another indicator of a bright future for the MMO.
