ArenaNet launched the first content update for Guild Wars 2: Secrets of the Obscure on November 7, 2023, adding more story content, a new map, rewards, relics and a brand new activity in the process.
The new map in question is Inner Nayos, the realm from which the Kryptis hail and it is quite "meaty" for the lack of a better word. Almost anywhere you step is squishy, everything is bizarre and grotesque but it also provides some insight into the nature of Kryptis.
Speaking of their nature, they do share some traits with Tyrian races as they are also bickering about leadership and politics. This is what the story content will elaborate on but let's not spoil the details.
Wading through the demonic realm is not without its rewards - players will be able to obtain weapons with Nayos-inspired skins and even an armour set that will make them look a lot like Kryptis.
Additionally, new Relics will provide more ways to craft builds and customise your gameplay, which will be especially needed with the new activity - Convergence.
Dealing with all those pesky Rifts should technically prepare you for Convergence, which will hold some of the best rewards in the game, as this 50-player onslaught sends Tyrians to duke it out with some of the most powerful Kryptis around.
It is basically like a more difficult world event since you don't get to respawn. Getting downed is no issue as allies can bring you back up but if you get knocked out entirely, you will turn into a wisp without the ability to come back in full combat capacity.
That said, you can still help immensely with the wisp abilities which are designed to support your still-alive allies. You can heal and protect them or even revive them en-masse every once in a while.
Convergence has a time limit of one hour but the countdown doesn't show up until only 10 minutes are left. In theory, most players will never see the countdown since the activity will normally not take more than half an hour but should too many teammates turn into wisps, it might slow the progress enough.
Expanded weapon proficiences are not here yet but there will be a beta test running from November 28 to December 3, 2023.
