Santa Monica Studio confirms Kratos will appear in future God of War games despite concerns following God of War Laufey announcement featuring Faye as protagonist

Santa Monica Studio has confirmed that Kratos remains central to the future of the God of War franchise, despite the upcoming release of God of War Laufey.

Santa Monica Studio has confirmed that Kratos will feature in future entries in the God of War series. The confirmation comes after fans questioned Kratos’ place in the franchise following the announcement of God of War Laufey, which puts sister deity Faye at the centre of its story. Fans raised concerns over Kratos’ apparent lack of involvement with God of War Laufey following Sony’s recent State of Play showcase.

Those fears were shot down by the developer and series’ creative leaders, who reaffirmed Kratos’ place in the ongoing narrative. Santa Monica Studio addressed the speculation on social media, writing: “There are many more stories to tell about Kratos, God of War.”

While teased to shed light on some of the series’ biggest mysteries, developer’s are keen to expand upon the world God of War inhabits. Creator Cory Barlog recently sat down with God of War Laufey’s director Ariel Lawrence.

During the interview, Barlog addressed Kratos’ role in future games, saying that Faye’ adventure was just one chapter in the wider God of War story.Lawrence shared a similar sentiment in a tweet of her own, saying that fans “can’nt not” tell stories about Kratos.

The statements by both Lawrence and Barlog indicates that God of War Laufey hopes to expand the series mythology without sidelining Kratos indefinitely.

Players will assume control of Faye throughout God of War Laufey’s story. The game follows the character after she dies, forcing players to explore her new surroundings in the Everywhen. That realm acts as a hub for gods after they die, drawing deities from across Santa Monica Studio’ supported mythologies.

God of War Laufey’s world will allow players to discover new areas in the God of War universe from a different perspective. Combat will also bear similarities to the first God of War games, featuring a faster tempo than its immediate predecessor. Story-wise however, players can expect a similar focus on cinematic storytelling.
