Santa Monica Studio announced God of War Laufey, featuring Faye (Laufey) as the playable character in a new realm called the Everywhen

God of War Laufey has been officially revealed by Santa Monica Studio. The next chapter in the series follows Faye through the mysterious Everywhen, featuring fast-paced combat, mythology-spanning enemies, and a new story set after Ragnarok.

Santa Monica Studio revealed God of War Laufey today, the highly-anticipated next entry in the God of War series. Players will be taking control of Faye, also known as Laufey, a legendary warrior and Kratos’ wife.

Following her death, players will guide Faye through the God of War universe in her own story that takes place in a mysterious realm known as the Everywhen. Fans got their first glimpse at Faye’s adventure today with a new gameplay trailer and story details. God of War Laufey launches players into a new mythology-based threat as they follow Faye on her journey through the Everywhen.

While this newest entry gives players a new perspective on the God of War universe, players can expect the trademark combat play as fast switching and mobility is at the heart of God of War Laufey’s combat.

God of War Ragnarok will pick up sometime after the events of the previous game, following Kratos’ wife Faye as she emerges from her death in the Everywhen. Players guide Faye through the magical afterlife as gods, monsters, and creatures from all manner of mythology interact alongside one another after learning her ambitions to protect Kratos and Atreus are in jeopardy.

You’ll encounter foes and deities like Sekhmet and Begtse in her adventure through the Everwhen as you discover the secrets behind gods dying and what magic actually is. Santa Monica Studio previously said the Everywhen is where all magic in the world comes from and will return to at the end of its lifespan.

This means players will likely encounter numerous characters and beasts from other mythologies. Fights have been completely overhauled to focus on Faye’s speed. Players can weave between combos on the ground and up in the air for a much more agile fighting system than what players have grown accustomed to with Kratos.

This is centered around the legendary sword Faye wields throughout her adventure.Enemies can be slashed through with rapid combos as players spam heavy attacks to maintain constant aggression.

Overall, combat will feel like a mix between God of War and God of War III. Faye will be joined by two helpers on her journey. The first is Phranque, a dimensional cube voiced by Jack Quaid. The second is Rue, an animated ribbon tasked with protecting Phranque voiced by Perlina Lau. Stay tuned for more.
