Xbox's blockbuster RPG Fable which was supposed to launch this year has been moved to 2026, it's been confirmed yesterday by Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan on the Xbox Podcast.
Shortly after, speculation arosed that the reason for the delay could lie in the planned (but not officially confirmed) PlayStation 5 port. Apparently, Xbox may want to launch Fable simultaneously on PC, Xbox and PS5, so they are giving Playground Games more time to finishing the porting to Sony's console.
However, reliable insider extas1s reveals that there's no truth in those claims and that Fable delay was solely down to technical reasons, optimisation and gameplay tweaks.
The insider states that Playground Games need more time for the development and quality control because of the Forza engine which was made for racing games and needed a lot of extra work for a complex RPG like Fable.
One thing that Fable fans could find worrying is the information that the game didn't seem very fun at first hence the gameplay tweaks, according to insider. extas1s also states Playground are also tweaking the pace of the progression and all of this requires additional time.
The Fable delay would probably be disappointing to many Xbox fans if not for many other games that are coming out in 2025 including Doom: The Dark Ages, South of Midnight and several other big releases.
