Fable has been officially delayed by Microsoft. The RPG is now set to release in February 2027. For months there had been rumours that the game would be delayed, with one report stating it was pushed internally so as not to compete with Grand Theft Auto 6.
Though Xbox and Playground Games themselves shot down the report, they maintained that Fable would come out this Autumn 2026. Speaking about the delay, Xbox stated that they didn’t want Fable’s launch to be “missed in the rush” and needed more time to ensure it’s the game Playground Games wants it to be.
Fable’s delay is disappointing but doesn’t come as a surprise. Though we’ll have to wait a bit longer to play it, the extra time will allow Playground Games to polish off the fantasy RPG.
Fable is poised to be one of Microsoft’s biggest first-party games of the year, serving as the series’ first mainline entry since 2010 and Playground Games’ first colossal RPG since leaving the Forza Horizon franchise behind.
Furthermore, Fable’s newly shifted release window gives it even more space between itself and GTA 6 and other major games coming at the end of 2026. While it would have been unfortunate to go head-to-head with Rockstar’s behemoth, being released in February should help avoid the game getting lost in one of next year’s biggest release windows.
Players won’t have to wait too much longer to see more of Fable however, as Xbox confirmed the game will be shown during its June Showcase. More gameplay and info about the game should be shown at this year’s presentation. Fable is currently expected to release some time in February of 2027. An exact date has yet to be shared.
