Fable

Fable

Fable is an open-world action RPG developed by Playground Games and published by Xbox Game Studios, scheduled to launch on 23 February 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, with day-one availability on Game Pass.

The first mainline Fable game in over a decade and the first ever to launch on PlayStation, it is a full reboot of the franchise originally created by Lionhead Studios, set once again in the storybook fantasy world of Albion. First announced at the Xbox Series X Games Showcase in July 2020, the game was delayed from Autumn 2026 to February 2027, with Microsoft citing competition from other major releases.

Built on Playground's ForzaTech engine, significantly retooled for RPG systems, on-foot exploration, and NPC simulation, the game features over 1,000 individually voice-acted handcrafted characters and allows players to enter every building in the world.

Players begin as a child who discovers heroic powers early in life, before a time jump takes them into adulthood in their home village of Briar Hill. The hero can be male or female, played by Lily Nichol and Ukweli Roach respectively. The game's villain is Isabel, the Hero of Wraithmarsh, played by Hayley Atwell, who is driven by grief and a conviction that Albion needs only one hero.

A post-credits stinger at the Xbox Games Showcase confirmed the return of Jack of Blades, the masked antagonist from the original 2004 game. The classic morality system returns, with the player's reputation shaping NPC reactions, narrative outcomes, and the world around them, though morality no longer affects the hero's physical appearance.
