Fable resurfaced at the Xbox Games Showcase with a new story trailer, a 23 February 2027 release date, and a cast headlined by Hayley Atwell, and yes, it's still coming to PS5.

Oi! Fable is well and truly back! A new story trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase gave the long-awaited reboot its most impressive showing yet, confirming a 23 February 2027 release date alongside a proper look at the game's villain, its world, and a typically star-studded cast. And I couldn't be more excited about all of that.

The footage leaned into action, with the Hero facing down a Balverine and, in classic Fable fashion, but also giving us a glimpse of a much darker events that will occur depending on your choices. There was also a fair bit of swearing, guys, it's Fable!

A villain played by Hayley Atwell

The trailer's centrepiece was an ominous monologue from Isabel, the game's antagonist, played by Hayley Atwell of Marvel and recent Mission: Impossible fame. Per associate narrative director Craig Owens, Isabel is a powerful Hero driven by grief, on a quest to right a tragic injustice, and convinced she can undo any harm she causes along the way. That conviction is what makes her dangerous, and it's a more interesting setup than a straightforwardly evil villain.

Owens praised Atwell's ability to balance vulnerability with strength, noting her classical training came through in the recording booth. On paper, she's a strong fit for the kind of morally complicated antagonist the studio is describing.

Still coming to PS5

The headline detail for many will be that Fable remains a PlayStation 5 release as well as an Xbox and PC one, exactly as announced previously. Xbox is honouring that commitment, and the release date card lists Xbox Series X/S, PC, Xbox Cloud, Steam and PS5.

It's worth putting this in context, though. Fable looks increasingly like one of the last of a particular breed: a single-player Xbox title confirmed for PlayStation before the company's strategy started shifting. More recent announcements such as Gears of War E-Day and Clockwork Revolution went without any cross-platform commitment up front, which has fuelled the view that Xbox's newer single-player games may stay within its own ecosystem. That fits neatly with the renewed exclusivity talk from new CEO Asha Sharma, though nothing concrete has been confirmed either way. For now, Fable buyers on PS5 can rest easy.
