Grand Theft Auto 6 takes the open-world series wanted system to new levels by monitoring players’ actions throughout gameplay.
Rockstar North co-Studio head Rob Nelson explained that Criminal Profile system will provide law enforcement and the game world around them with more context surrounding players’ actions.
GT6 Will Feature a Criminal Profile System
Grand Theft Auto 6 reintroduces the iconic six-tier wanted system with progressively intense law enforcement responses to crimes. Police will also appear to know more about wanted criminals than prior GTA games, such as descriptions about clothing, vehicles, and potential passengers.
Players can eventually lose their wanted level by laying low and switching vehicles. Witnesses will also become a factor, as crimes must be reported to law enforcement before they will take action.
Grand Theft Auto 6‘s Criminal Profile system expands upon mechanics introduced in last year’s Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar seems to be taking a lighter approach to player interactions in GTA 6.
For example, players won’t automatically be punished for upholding their own defenses during a conflict. Attacking innocent people will affect your Criminal Profile more than if you were defending yourself from a gang member.
Players Won’t Automatically Be Branded Criminals
Law enforcement will also describe criminals with more detailed information. Police radio chatter will allegedly specify:
- What the suspect is wearing
- Vehicle they’re using
- If there are any passengers
- What crime was committed
Switching vehicles may become pointless if you can still be located by police due to your clothing. Rockstar is essentially providing more context to police responses while rewarding players that take a subtler approach to crime.
If you’re found to continuously exceed what’s necessary to get out of a sticky situation, Nelson says your criminal profile will shift in one direction. Essentially, GTA 6 will monitor if you’re escalating situations too often.
