Rockstar Games have confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently running at 30 FPS on all consoles, including PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S. According to CharlieIntel, the studio told content creators visiting Rockstar North that they don't have anything to share on a performance mode for now, and resolution details per platform also remain unconfirmed.
What this actually means
For now, there's a single 30 FPS mode across the board, with no confirmed option to trade resolution for frame rate. That's not necessarily the final word though. There's a small chance that the target could still shift before launch or via a post-launch update but it's unlikely. Given how much visual density GTA VI is showing off, especially in the jawdropping Netflix showcase, hitting a locked 30 FPS at launch would already be a considerable technical achievement.
What to expect from PS5 Pro
Don't expect the Pro to solve this on its own. Its main upgrade over the base PS5 is a beefier GPU, but its CPU is essentially unchanged, and GTA VI's simulation-heavy open world (traffic, AI, physics, NPC density) leans hard on CPU performance. That means PS5 Pro owners can reasonably expect sharper resolution and possibly better graphical fidelity, but a straightforward doubling of frame rate to 60fps isn't likely without a genuine performance mode being built for it. A middle-ground 40fps option on higher refresh displays remains the more realistic ceiling if Rockstar do add anything beyond the base 30 FPS mode.
PC is still the safest bet for 60fps
For anyone who can't tolerate 30 FPS, waiting for the PC version remains the most reliable path to a smoother experience, in line with how Rockstar has historically handled its console-to-PC releases. No PC version or release window has been confirmed yet, so that wait could extend well beyond 2027.
Platforms and release
Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PC release has been announced.
