The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered has received its first Switch 2 gameplay footage, showcasing improved visuals and Joy-Con 2 controls ahead of its September release.

CD Projekt RED has shown off the first gameplay footage of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered being played on Nintendo Switch 2.

We got to see the gameplay footage during a REDstream which took place at Gamescom. In the stream, players were shown updated footage of how the massive RPG plays on Nintendo’s upcoming system.

The Witcher 3 ran fairly well on the original Nintendo Switch, however CD Projekt RED had to make sacrifices to both visual fidelity and frame-rate. Because of Switch 2’s upgraded hardware, CD Projekt RED now has more performance headroom to improve the game’s visuals.

Graphically, it’s clear that the Switch 2 version of The Witcher 3 has been given a major upgrade over the base Switch version. While environment details look sharper, the overall look and presentation feels much closer to version of the game on more powerful hardware.

For reference, the original Switch port of The Witcher 3 was still a strong technical achievement despite being hampered by noticeable compromises. Seeing it run well with few sacrifices on Switch 2 is exciting.

CD Projekt RED also showed off how movement controls will work with the Joy-Con 2. It should be noted that some bugs can be spotted with movement in this first look.

The frame-rate isn’t perfect though. During the stream, it was noted that the game struggled to maintain a consistent 30 FPS. This could be a little jarring to players who expect a stable frame-rate.

However, as always, it’s worth mentioning that this is a work-in-progress. CD Projekt RED will have plenty of time to optimise the Switch 2 version and improve performance issues like frame-rate before launch.
