Project Orion has entered pre-production according to an official announcement from CD Projekt RED. As of last year this project was reported to be in early development after its initial announcement in 2022 and it represents the start of dedicated work to develop the Cyberpunk series' subsequent installment.
CD Projekt Group’s Q1 2025 earnings report created speculation about whether Cyberpunk 2 represents the official title or remains a temporary designation for internal and investor communications.
The studio remains silent on the official title but referring to the game as "Cyberpunk 2" demonstrates its purpose as the direct continuation of Cyberpunk 2077.
The creator of the franchise Mike Pondsmith revealed select information about the game's setting. The sequel plans to feature a new city which resembles a version of Chicago that has failed.
This development allows for another major urban environment that could be named Cyberpunk 2080 but this information is yet to be verified.
Pondsmith announced Night City will return in some form so players should anticipate exploring both new areas and returning locations throughout the game. The game developers have not yet revealed if players will be able to switch between cities or experience two distinct campaigns.
CD Projekt RED remains focused on supporting their current game lineup. Cyberpunk 2077: The Ultimate Edition will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025 and contain both the base game and Phantom Liberty expansion.
Pre-production advancement will bring players additional updates and an in-depth preview of upcoming developments in the Cyberpunk universe.
