Steam users have been unhappy with the most recent update for Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, which accidentally removed the ray-tracing features from both games. Capcom say it was a mistake and a fix is on the way.

Capcom updated both Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes on Steam just a couple of days ago, ending support for the non-ray tracing, DirectX 11 version of the game. In the process, it seems that the devs broke the DirectX12 version which no longer features ray-tracing.

Players on Steam were quick to notice that ray-tracing is no longer available in either of these remade horror games, filling the discussions page with questions about ray-tracing features. Some assumed that Capcom removed the feature to improve the performance on PC but that's not the case.

Capcom today acknowledged the issue, stating that it was a mistake that will be fixed in the upcoming patch. "We're aware of an ongoing issue with the raytracing option not appearing in the graphics menu and presets. We'll have this addressed in a future update and apologize for any inconvenience!,"  Capcom tweeted.

In the meantime, players will have to settle down for screen space reflections, which don't look nearly as good as ray tracing but it is what it is. In addition to this ray-tracing bug, players have also reported that 3D audio is not working.

Capcom are aware of that issue too, and will fix it in the upcoming patch. At the time of writing, the publisher did not say when to expect this patch but we assume it should be coming in the next few days.

All in all, it's always great to see the developers responding to the community in such a timely manner. We hope that the patch will also arrive sooner rather than later.

Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 are available now on PC, PlayStation 4 , PlayStation 5 , Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
