Developer Mundfish have explained various performance scenarios for their upcoming shooter Atomic Heart on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
Highly-anticipated shooter Atomic Heart will run at 4K / 60 FPS on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles, according to the developer Mundfish . When asked on Twitter whether the game supports lower resolution with 60 FPS mode on consoles, Mundfish replied that the resolution will actually be 4K in closed areas like dungeons and dynamic 4K in the open world.
The frame rate will be a solid 60 FPS in all scenarios, regardless of the location, which is certainly great news for the owners of current-gen consoles. The players also asked about ray-tracing features on consoles but the devs did not reply to those questions before we published this article.
Additionally, Mundfish did not specify if Xbox Series S will be capable of 4K / 60 FPS performance. We presume 1440p / 60 FPS without ray tracing is a more likely scenario but that's yet to be confirmed.
If we had to guess, we would say that the ray-tracing on consoles will be limited to some sort of quality mode that will lock the frame rate to 30 FPS. That's what we've seen from other games on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S so far so it wouldn't be surprising if Atomic Heart has a similar solution.
Atomic Heart is confirmed to have ray-traced reflections on PC as well as Nvidia's upscaling tech DLSS. Of course, PC players won't have to worry about frame-rate limits as they will probably get an unlocked frame-rate feature.
Atomic Heart is officially launching on February 21, 2023, for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Game Pass.
