League of Legends Patch 26.10 will bring one of Arena’s largest updates to date. The popular 3v3 mode will officially switch over to a 6-player format featuring three people on each team, Riot confirmed. This is only one part of the Arena Season 2 update though, which is mostly continuing the developer’s efforts to make every game feel less repetitive.
The old 2v2 format often led to “cookie-cutter” teams fielding the same overpowered champions and extremely optimised pairings. Switching over to three players per side should theoretically open up more opportunity for unconventional picks, big team comps, and exciting interactivity outside of duos.
League of Legends Patch 26.10 is currently going live on May 13th, 2026. Arena seems to be one of the patch’s larger focuses along with additional changes to Ranked.
Arena Season 2 Adds More Variety and Chaos
The new format still consists of Arena matches, but they will pit six teams of three players against one another. This significant size increase should lead to more chaotic matches, as Riot hopes. The developer added that it expects teams will foster increased champion diversity and allow more unique champions and strategies.
Arena Season 2 will also see the return of Events, Augment Levels, over 30 new augments, and over 20 new/reworked Guests of Honor. A new map called Petricite Grove will be added to the rotation, and Ancestral Woods is getting a rework as well.
Elsewhere on the Rift, Riot said Apex Ranked will continue to be monitored after the recent regional MMR reset. Duo queue will remain disabled for the time being so that matchmaking ratings can stabilize before more changes are made.
Riot also gave a quick explanation as to why players are seeing Emerald-ranked competitors in Masters queues.
Most of these instances were caused by abandoned accounts post-reset, new high-win-rate accounts, or players queuing with teammates of higher MMR. Riot says the system is working as intended.
