For years, we’ve heard rumours, and now Ubisoft has officially confirmed it. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is getting a remake. Dubbed Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, the announcement was made alongside a fresh piece of concept art featuring protagonist Edward Kenway on deck of his ship.
Naturally, fans of the pirate-adventure are rejoicing at the confirmation of one of the franchise’s fan-favourite entries. The lack of details is frustrating, sure.
But at this point, just having Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag officially confirmed as a remake is a huge step forward. Considering how great it could potentially be, it really does feel like this was always going to happen.
A Subtle but Official Reveal
Ubisoft formally confirmed the game following statements from Jean Guesdon, Vantage Studios content director. “Every game needs time to breathe and achieve the quality we are looking for,” he said in a short but purposeful statement.
“Some whispers carry a bit more wind in their sails. Keep your spyglass peeled.” There was no window, and no gameplay to accompany this tease. The studio also didn’t confirm or deny an expected reveal later this year which many thought Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag was going to receive.
Rumoured Changes and Improvements
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag has had many alleged features floated about in the past few months. One of the biggest topics is the removal of the modern day Abstergo framing sequence which could leave players solely in pirate assassin Edward Kenway’s story.
Other changes include additional side quests and activities, content that was cut from the original game being reinstated, and supposedly even eliminating load screens all together.
It has also been claimed that Assassin’s Creed Shadows‘ reimagined weather effects will be seen in Black Flag’s remake, as well as improvements to its world map and environmental details.
Black Flag was previously said to be aiming for a March release window before internal restructuring at Ubisoft pushed it back. There is still no official release date.
