Striking Distance Studios' survival horror The Callisto Protocol is introducing Riot Mode on May 23, 2023, which is basically a horde mode.
Developer Striking Distance Studio are continuing with post-launch support for their sci-fi survival horror The Callisto Protocol . The next update in line is set to introduce a new game mode dubbed Riot Mode.
The details are still scarce since the devs only shared a short teaser that confirms the May 23, 2023 release date. However, judging by the name, it's safe to assume that this is a horde mode for The Callisto Protocol.
In case you're not familiar with horde modes, as the name suggests, it's a mode where players fight against increasingly difficult waves of enemies. In some games, horde mode is called survival mode. The name first appeared in Gears of War 2.
Anyway, as you can see in the trailer below, it seems that the mode kicks off with players having only their melee weapon. We assume that as you kill waves of enemies, the game will reward you with shotguns and assault rifles to stand a chance against bigger and tougher enemies that come later on.
All in all, it's certainly a great idea for a survival horror game with tight corridors like The Callisto Protocol and we're eager to give it a go, even though we didn't really love the game as you can see in our review below.
So far, the Callisto Protocol post-launch updates added New Game+, Hardcore mode and the latest Dismemberment mode. Striking Distance Studios will continue to work on the game and should be announcing the game's first major Story DLC soon.
