Striking Distance Studios' highly-anticipated sci-fi survival horror game The Callisto Protocol has officially been banned in Japan by the Japanese rating board CERO. Striking Distance Studios say they are not able to pass the CERO rating and won't be changing any content since that would mean a different experience for the players in Japan.
This pretty much means that The Callisto Protocol will not launch in Japan and won't be sold in stores nor digital storefronts.
And while the Japanese players are very disappointed to hear the news, they still plan on buying the game. The Japanese gamers ask Striking Distance Studios and Krafton to keep the Japanese language and voiceovers in the game.
Of course, despite the ban, there are still several ways to get the game in Japan. One of the solutions is to change the region of the storefront on PlayStation or Xbox consoles. Then there's the VPN and the good old physical copies, which can be imported from countries that didn't ban the game.
It's a darn shame that they won't be able to buy, download and play the game as other gamers around the world but we don't have any doubts that the Japanese players will find a way to play The Callisto Protocol.
Also, it has to be said that CERO's ban is very hypocritical given that they allow all sorts of games with very questionable content.
