The developer of sci-fi survival horror The Callisto Protocol are officially working on their next game, which is being built in Unreal Engine 5, according to the job listing that Striking Distance Studios posted recently as spotted by MauroNL.
It's safe to assume that the developer only recently started working on this brand-new unannounced title as they are looking for a lead animator for "the most dynamic and engaging player and enemy experiences."
The studio currently has nine positions available for this project. At the moment, we don't really know what Striking Distance Studios are working on.
If we had to guess, we would say that The Callisto Protocol sequel is probably out of the question since this survival horror received an underwhelming critical reception and sold roughly 2 million units which is far below Krafton's forecast of five million.
Striking Distance Studio suffered layoffs last year when a total of 32 people lost their jobs. Studio founder Glen Schofield also left the company in September 2023 along with the studio's chief operating officer and chief financial officer. Krafton commented that all three departures were voluntary.
We'd say that it's been a really bad year for the studio but hopefully, the team can bounce back with their next title as The Callisto protocol was quite the technical marvel, despite its many shortcomings.
And while I personally did not really like The Callisto Protocol as you can see in my review, I'm intrigued to see what Striking Distance Studios have in store for their next game.
