The controversial survival MMO, which turned out to be an extraction shooter, The Day Before, is officially shutting down next month. In a post on social media X, the developer of this shady title Fntastic, confirmed that they have officially closed the studio, which means the game can no longer be supported therefore it will be retired when the developer switches off the servers on January 22, 2024.
Fntastic say that all players who purchased the game will get their money back as Steam are proactively refunding all remaining customers. Additionally, publisher Mytona have also been working closely with Steam to facilitate refunds.
Fntastic explained that they simply had to shut down the game as they don't have a development team to support the project moving forward.
"We extend our gratitude for the community's support throughout the project's life. Unfortunately, without a development team, we had no alternative choice but to officially close the project. We sincerely thank all our supporters throughout this journey and wish you all a happy holiday season," they wrote in the statement.
All in all, we're glad that this whole story is finally over and that everyone who trusted Fntastic and purchased the game will get their money back.
It will be interesting to see if Fntastic heads will face any legal action for this whole mess. There's certainly a lot of room for potential lawsuits for false advertising and more.
Players were suspicious about The Day Before from day one but the manner in which developer Fntastic delayed the game and failed to reveal real gameplay footage of the game caused plenty of red flags within the community.
Eventually, the game launched earlier this month and just a day after the release, Fntastic revealed they are shutting down since the game failed to attract sales to fund further development.
