It looks like Arkane Studios will continue using their in-house engine called Void Engine for future titles, including Marvel's Blade, according to the ArtStation profile of Senior Lighting Artist at Arkane Lyon, Thomas Mothe.
Eagled-eyed X users spotted the mention of Void Engine under the experience tab on Mothe's profile. Interestingly, the line mentioning the Void engine has now been removed from the page. This could be due to the fact that Arkane Studios did not officially announce what engine they are using for Marvel's Blade.
Arkane Studios have made a handful of titles on Void engine including Deathloop, Dishonored 2 and Death of the Outsider DLC. Void Engine is a heavily modified version of Bethesda's id Tech 5, which was developed by id Software for various first-person shooters like Rage and Wolfenstein series.
So what exactly does the engine choice mean for you as a player? Well, pretty much nothing. Game engines are just tools that developers use to make video games and they don't affect the gameplay features or art style.
Arkane are obviously, well versed with their proprietary tools within Void Engine, which should make development smoother. It will be interesting to see if Arkane introduce any major engine upgrades for Marvel's Blade like for example a ray-tracing solution or some other modern graphical techniques.
It will take a while before we hear more about that as Marvel's Blade is still in early development and won't be coming anytime soon. The game does not have a release date at the moment but if we had to guess, we'd say it's probably targeting the 2025/2026 launch window.
Marvel's Blade is expected to be released on PC and Xbox Series X|S.
