Gears of War E-Day Beta adds PvP Versus to weak one.

The Coalition had originally restricted 4v4 multiplayer to the beta's second weekend, but pre-order holders pushed back hard enough that the studio reversed the decision within hours.

The Gears of War E-Day beta went live today for early access players, and it almost launched without one of its two headline modes. The Coalition had structured the first weekend of the beta around Horde Siege exclusively, with 4v4 PvP Versus reserved for the second weekend. Players who had already pre-ordered the game were not happy about paying for early access only to get half the content, and they made that known quickly.

The Coalition responded the same day. An official post on X confirmed: "We heard you. We acted. PvP Versus is coming to this weekend's early access period for the Open Beta. Available for pre-download now." Both Horde Siege and 4v4 Versus multiplayer are now available to early access players throughout this first weekend, with the same content continuing into the open beta's second weekend.

The beta is divided across two weekends this August. Early access, for players who pre-ordered either the Standard or Premium Edition, began today with the change now in effect. The open beta, which is free for all Game Pass subscribers and anyone who wants to try the game without committing, begins on the second weekend later this month.

Horde Siege is the more ambitious of the two modes, putting three squads of four players against Locust waves across large city maps in a 12-player PvE format, while Versus is the series' classic 4v4 competitive multiplayer. Completing either mode during the beta unlocks exclusive cosmetic rewards that carry forward to the full game at launch on 6 October 2026, with Premium Edition holders getting in five days early from 1 October.
