If you followed The Day Before development closely, you are probably not surprised by the latest news that the developer Fntastic are closing the studio for good, following the disastrous launch of the game via Steam Early Access.
Not only did Fntastic lie about the game's genre and features, but they pretty much made an unplayable piece of junk that received "Overwhelmingly Negative" reviews from players.
Following the launch, Fntastic revealed on social media X that they are shutting down as they don't have the resources to continue supporting the game. Yes, only days after the release. Smells fishy? Yes, cause it absolutely is.
Players are obviously livid that this happened, especially those who somehow believed this whole farce was legit, spending $40 for early access. The Day Before Discord was completely closed yesterday as players started spamming "scam" messages, while the official Reddit was also flooded with posts from angry players.
Joining in to the happy discussion are developers of survival hits DayZ and Rust, who brutally trolled Fntastic and their title, which promised to become the next big thing for survival games.
DayZ developer Bohemia posted a message that celebrates the 10th anniversary of DayZ but the "graphic" they've used is pretty much identical to the one Fntastic used for The Day Before. Rust devs also did the same thing, copying Bohemia's post and replacing "DayZ" with Rust. It certainly looks like they are having their fair amount of fun and we don't blame them.
As for what's next for The Day Before and players, well, Steam should be issuing refunds to those who ask for their money back. The game will be removed from Steam's store soon while Fntastic will hopefully think twice before starting another ambitious project.
