Bethesda released a couple of smaller patches for Starfield since this sci-fi RPG launched a couple of months ago, but are now targeting more substantial updates as we move into 2024.
The development team announced via their official blog that they are targeting updates roughly every six weeks starting in February 2024. These updates will include various fixes, quality-of-life improvements and new content.
Just like the DLSS update, these upcoming updates will be introduced through the Steam Beta branch before they roll out globally to all players.
Starfield updates in 2024
So, what exactly will be coming to Starfield in 2024? As previously confirmed by Bethesda, Starfield will get city maps, new ways to travel and other features.
The new blog post also includes a mention of expanded ship customisations with decorations, new ship-building options and gameplay options that will allow players to alert specific mechanics for an easier or more challenging experience.

There's also more, so here's a quick list of new Starfield features that Bethesda mentioned in the post:
- New ways to travel (Vehicles?)
- City maps
- Ship decorations
- New ship building options
- New gameplay options
- Alter game difficulty to make the game easier or more difficult.
- Customise carry capacity, cargo access distance, ship damage, vendor credits, how you suffer afflictions
- New survival mechanics
- Mod support via Creation Kit
- Shattered Space expansion
- New story content, locations, new gear and more.
All in all, it really seems like an exciting update from Bethesda who will continue to work on Starfield content for the foreseeable future.
We hope to see even more updates in 2024 that would certainly improve the game even further. As a sucker for good ray tracing, I'm really eager to see if there's something like that on the horizon for Starfield as the game would benefit from good ray-traced ambient occlusion, shadows and reflections.
Starfield is out now for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
