Yesterday, we got a confirmation that Sony have officially signed a partnership deal with the Korean publisher NCSoft, who are known for MMO Guild Wars 2 and exciting upcoming titles like Project M.
You're probably wondering why is this important for this story? Well, a while back, Korean news website MTN revealed that Sony are in talks with several game publishers in Korea, including NCSoft, Neowiz and you've guessed it, Pearl Abyss.
MTN claimed that Sony are pursuing business partnerships with these publishers and Pearl Abyss in particular. Apparently, Sony discussed various partnership plans and potential equity investments with Pearl Abyss in order to secure exclusive Crimson Desert content for PlayStation 5.
Now that the partnership with NCSoft has been officially confirmed, it's safe to assume that the report was spot on and it's only a matter of time before we hear more about other deals too including the one with Pearl Abyss who have recently hinted at a potential partnerships.

Pearl Abyss stated in their recent earnings conference call that they are in the process of finalising contracts with publishing partners. "So currently we are also ongoing in terms of final discussions and agreements [with] partner companies in terms of finalizing contracts," Pearl Abyss said.
This suggests that the announcement could be coming soon, potentially in the first months of 2024, when Pearl Abyss are also expected to finally announce the release date for Crimson Desert. If Pearl Abyss have indeed struck a deal with Sony, Crimson Desert could be a console exclusive to PlayStation 5, skipping Xbox Series X|S release.
Obviously, it's entirely possible that the partnership deal is for something smaller, like exclusive marketing rights. Sony are known to chase these deals, especially for big titles. Hogwarts Legacy and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 are some of the examples of such deals.
Until officially announced, we suggest you take everything with a grain of salt, especially you Xbox fans, who are probably fearing that Crimson Desert may not be released on your beloved console. Even if that happens, we doubt the game will stay PlayStation 5 exclusive forever. The deal could only last for six months or a year.
