Remember The Day Before? A big open-world survival game that promised Moon and stars, blatantly copied key art and screenshots from other games and got shuttered shortly after its release.
Well, the developers of this one are officially back and their latest update is quite something, to say the least. Fntastic are pausing the development of their recently announced physics-based co-op game Escape Factory as they failed to raise enough funds on Kickstarter.
Fntastic were looking for $15,183 but only raised $2,388 from 50 backers. But that's not the whole story. In the official statement on social media X Fntastic have said that they are now starting a brand new project, which is an action horror prop game called Items and apparently, this one is what the fans of the studio have been waiting for.
Fntastic say that once they have a playable demo they may launch another Kickstarter campaign or explore other options for release. Until then, the studio plan to raise funds by releasing mobile games to support the development and create the game every gamer dreams of.
"Your wishes are very important to us, and we are happy to announce the start of development on a new action-horror prop hunt game called ITEMS! This is exactly what many of you have been waiting for! Once we have a fully playable demo, we may launch a new Kickstarter campaign or explore other options for release.
It's important to us that our players get the chance to play and test the game in advance. Since the development of ITEMS will require significant resources, we have decided to release mobile games parallel to support the process," Fntastic said in the statement.
I'm not sure why Fntastic would think that their new games would attract any interest after what happened with The Day Before but here we are. It will certainly be interesting to watch how this one develops since everything surrounding Fntastic smells fishy from a mile away.
The studio now have quite a history of abandoning unfinished games and I would not be surprised at all if Items is another one that's going to end up on that pile.
