A new sci-fi horror game called Deepest Fear was announced at the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted 2024, promising a first-person experience inspired by classic retro-futuristic movies like The Abyss and The Thing.
With the game events being set deep in the ocean, this game combines storytelling with intense survival mechanics, delivering a chilling adventure where water itself becomes a deadly adversary.
This is something that fans of atmospheric sci-fi and nail-biting tension can look forward to when it launches on PC via Steam, though an official release date hasn't been revealed as of yet.
In Deepest Fear, players put themselves in the shoes of Dr. Danni Carroll, a scientist sent to investigate the Neptune facility, an underwater lab degrading and full of secrets in the dark. Suddenly, it gets personal - the awakening of an ancient malevolent force by her own father.
Deep beneath the ocean surface, she will have to make her way through the labyrinths of hallways, confront terrifying creatures, and avoid the ever-present flood threat.
What really sets Deepest Fear apart, however, is with its dynamic design for enemies; the game's use of the advanced fluid simulation via the Unreal Engine 5 affords monsters to manifest even from any source of water.
This creates an omnidirectional feeling of a threat and makes the player wary throughout the game.
The game also has immersive sim and metroidvania elements to encourage exploration and strategic use of tools. While trying to survive, players will be able to find the sad history of the Neptune facility and adapt to an environment that changes and morphs with the advancing water.
Deepest Fear adds a layer of survival horror to the formula, which has turned one of the most essential sources in the world into one to fear.
