Rockstar's classic open-world western game Red Dead Redemption might not be finished on current-gen consoles just yet. A new ESRB listing has appeared for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2.
This is the first sign that the 2010 title may be returning to consoles with enhanced graphics for current-gen consoles. The ESRB listing has kept the Mature 17+ rating with descriptors including intense violence, nudity, strong language, and drug use as was previously the case with the game.
However, it also notes that both the base game and the expansion, Undead Nightmare are included. This could be an indication that the game is expected to release as a complete package on current-gen.
A Natural Step After the PC Release
The decision to bring Red Dead Redemption to the PS5, Xbox Series, and Switch 2 comes in the natural step after Rockstar released the game on PC in 2024. It was the first time the game was officially available on computers, and that version included various graphical and technical enhancements that have only become available on the game’s new consoles as of recently.
That PC version had support for 4K resolution, unlocked frame rates, ultrawide displays, and NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR support, among other things.
Nintendo’s Third-Party Acquisitions Grow Stronger
Confirmation of Red Dead Redemption’s arrival for the Switch 2 could also help the Nintendo’s third-party acquisition strategy. Rockstar already brought the game to the original Switch in August 2023, making it the first entry in the series to come to a Nintendo console.
It being on the Switch 2 would also make sense for the console’s more performance-driven, next-generation transition and its ability to power more large-scale open-world games.
