The No Man’s Sky Remnant update is now available, adding new multi-tool mechanics, vehicle customisation, factories, a limited-time expedition, and visual upgrades.

Hello Games today released another major update to No Man’s Sky. The update, called Remnant, is approximately 9 GB in size and launches on all platforms today. It adds numerous new gameplay systems that revolve around exploration, vehicles, and world interaction.

Remnant further builds on Hello Games’ ongoing support of No Man’s Sky, with additions that focus on player engagement and expanded game mechanics rather than minor cosmetics.

Everything from the multi-tool to vehicle customisation has been expanded upon in Remnant to allow players to do more. The update also features a new temporary expedition, visual upgrades, and everything Nintendo Switch owners have been waiting for.

New Multi-Tool and Industrial Gameplay Features

Perhaps the biggest name-brand unlock in Remnant is a new multi-tool upgrade that allows you to magnetise a gravitino coil. With this you can actually scoop up, move and launch massive piles of industrial scrap with lifelike physics.

You can then take these assets:

  • Drag them around in the back of your all-terrain hauler Colossus
  • Dump them in factories for processing
  • And stack them around on the ground however you want

It really adds another tactile layer to interact with physical objects.

Vehicle Customisation and Factory Processing

Vehicles have been greatly expanded on in this patch. Players can now completely customise vehicles with different modules and technologies to allow for more specialised creations based on terrain or job at hand.

Factories also have been integrated a lot more, allowing players to process materials instead of merely picking them up and selling them. This allows for more depth when it comes to resource management and future planning.

Expedition, Visual Upgrades, and Switch Improvements

Included in the Remnant update is a new, temporary expedition players can take part in located on a sandy desert planet with its own set of objectives and rewards.

Other features being added to No Man’s Sky with this update include:

  • Character and ship cosmetics
  • Improved cloud detail
  • Corvette-class ships supported on Nintendo Switch

Remnant's additions of new systems and features, graphical enhancements, as well as Switch-specific upgrades and fixes help the update keep building upon No Man’s Sky for veterans and newcomers alike.
