CD Projekt have announced that their RPG The Witcher 3 has sold over 50 million units, marking another major sales milestone for the game, which is now set to overtake Red Dead Redemption 2 on the best-selling games list.
Geralt's third and final adventure, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt , is still selling like hotcakes. During the most recent earnings report, Polish developer CD Projekt Red have announced that their RPG The Witcher 3 has sold over 50 million copies globally, which is certainly an impressive milestone.
This means that The Witcher 3 is closing in on Red Dead Redemption 2 on the best-selling games of all time list. Rockstar's mammoth sold over 53 million copies as per the publisher's most recent earnings report.
Top 10 best-selling games
- Minecraft - 238 million
- GTA 6 - 180 million
- Tetris - 100 million
- Wii Sports - 82.9 million
- PUBG - 75 million
- Mario Kart 8 - 62.25 million
- Super Mario Bros. 58 million
- Red Dead Redemption 2 - 53 million
- The Witcher 3 - 50 million
- Pokemon Red, Green, Blue, Yellow - 47.52 million
Both games are still selling great but it does seem that The Witcher 3 has a stronger momentum thanks to its next-gen update, which added a bunch of quality of life improvements, new content and modern graphical features such as ray-tracing.
Obviously, if Rockstar decided to release a similar update for Red Dead Redemption 2, making it run 60 FPS on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S with visual enhancements, the game's sales would skyrocket once again, but we doubt Rockstar are thinking about that at the moment.
The company seems to be all hands on deck on Grand Theft Auto 6 , which is expected to be announced in the near future and potentially released in 2025.
All in all, the strong sales for both The Witcher 3 and Red Dead Redemption 2 years after the release are just another reminder of how great both of these games are. If you are yet to play either of these, we wholeheartedly recommend both Geralt's and Arthur Morgan's adventures.
