GTA 6 delayed again, Rockstar say they need more time to finish the game

​​​​Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) will not launch in May 2026, surprising absolutely no one with even the slightest idea of how game development and marketing work. 

In a social media post, Rockstar Games apologised to fans for the delay, promising that these extra five months will give them precious time to make GTA 6 a game they are truly proud of.  

Rockstar's Statement

"Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026. We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve"

Marketing Silence Signalled the Delay

To be honest, the delay announcement has been coming. Rockstar have been really quiet lately and that is never a good sign when you have a game that's supposed to launch in six months.

Usually, when a game is so close to release, marketing ramps up, new trailers drop regularly, selected media get hands-on with the game and devs start to talk about the game more frequently in interviews. None of that happened with GTA  6.

Rockstar's History of Delays Continues

This new delay is the second major one for GTA 6, and this is becoming somewhat of a tradition for Rockstar Games. I can't really recall if the publisher ever released a GTA or Red Dead game without at least a couple of delays first. 

This isn't criticism really, since the company make games like no one else. These are massive projects with hundreds of gameplay systems and that requires an enormous amount of work and QA.

GTA 6 will certainly be one of the greatest games ever made so it's expected that we have to wait a little longer for extra polish

Hopefully, GTA 6 won't need additional delays on top of this recent one, but I certainly wouldn't hold my breath for that. Until we have it in our hands, it's all possible, including further pushbacks.
