Destiny 2’s upcoming major update, Shadow and Order, has been delayed. Developer Bungie confirmed the release date for the expansion would arrive on 9 June 2026.
The news was shared through social media with the team apologising for the delay due to “large revisions” and quality-of-life improvements. Bungie noted they would provide more details regarding the update nearer release time. Live content and seasonal activities will continue as intended.
Why Shadow and Order Was Delayed
Bungie says that it will use the additional time to focus on polishing core systems, as well as make global improvements to the update.
Some of the additions that are planned to be included are:
- One of the weapon-tier increases we announced.
- Other systemic changes and tweaks.
- Stability improvements and usual bug fixes.
Bungie also noted that the extra time will allow them to hit the quality benchmark they want for the patch, instead of releasing it when they originally planned to.
Live Events Continue in the Meantime
While Shadow and Order has been rescheduled, Destiny 2’s event calendar remains active. Players can expect:
- Portal modifiers
- Guardian Games in March
- More frequent Iron Banner starting in April
- All of the usual live content and community events
As always, Bungie will continue to share details on in-game events and news.
Previous Delay Rumours and Marathon Crossover
There were rumours earlier this year that Shadow and Order’s release could be pushed back to dodge going head-to-head with Marathon, Bungie’s upcoming extraction shooter.
Bungie didn’t outright say that Marathon was the reason behind the delay, but suggested as much in January. Both games will have some cross-promotional material.
Destiny 2 rewards for pre-ordering Marathon will include cosmetics, Sparrows, Ships, shaders and emotes related to Shadow and Order.
