Netflix is diving deep into the Animus. The streaming giant has officially greenlit the live-action Assassin’s Creed series, with Emmy nominees Roberto Patino (DMZ, Westworld) and David Wiener (Halo, Homecoming) taking the helm as creators, showrunners, and executive producers, Ubisoft announced.
Described as a high-stakes thriller, the series will center on the age-old conflict between the Assassins and the Templars - two secret organizations with very different visions for humanity’s future. Expect time-hopping action, dramatic historical settings, and the philosophical questions that have always defined Assassin’s Creed: identity, free will, and the cost of power.
Netflix Assassin's Creed details
No release window has been announced yet for Assassin’s Creed but now that the production has officially kicked off, we hope to hear more about the series soon.
The show aims to capture what fans have loved about the games for nearly two decades: iconic historical settings, brutal parkour action, and the moral grey areas that define the war between Assassins and Templars.
“We've been fans of Assassin's Creed since its release in 2007,” Wiener and Patino said in a joint statement. “Every day we work on this show, we come away excited and humbled by the possibilities that Assassin's Creed opens to us... this is a show about the value of human connection, across cultures, across time.”
Ubisoft and Netflix Double Down
The series marks the first project from Netflix’s ongoing collaboration with Ubisoft, first announced in 2020. Ubisoft Film & Television will produce alongside Netflix, with Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, and Matt O’Toole also serving as executive producers.
“We are so excited to work alongside Roberto, David, and our Netflix partners to bring this beloved franchise to series,” said Margaret Boykin, head of content at Ubisoft Film & Television. “We look forward to delivering an experience that speaks to the heart of what fans love about Assassin’s Creed.”
Splinter Cell Anime Coming This Fall
The Assassin’s Creed live-action series is just one part of Netflix’s growing partnership with Ubisoft. The streaming giant is also gearing up for the release of Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, an animated adaptation of the beloved stealth-action franchise, set to arrive this fall.
