In the latest episode of Sony's Creator to Creator podcast, Naughty Dog head Neil Druckmann sat down with the director of the 28 Years Later film Alex Garland where they talked about all things video games, films and TV.
One of the most interesting parts of the podcast included a short chat about Naughty Dog's upcoming action adventure video game called Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which Sony and their first-party studio announced a while back.
Druckmann revealed plenty of juicy details on the game's plot, which revolves around a new mysterious religion, 2000 years into the future, the sense of lolines that they're trying to capture with the game and also hinted that the game could have less handholding than Naughty Dog's previous games.
However, the most interesting aspect was the game's potential release date. Judging by Druckmann's words, it will take a while before we get to play Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. The team at Naughty Dog "still have a ways to go" to reach the release date, which could mean the game won't be coming until 2026 at the earliest.
To be frank, Sony and Naughty Dog never said anything about 2025 release for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and the short teaser which featured almost no gameplay, is the indication that the game is far from being ready.
If I had to guess, I'd say the target release window is probably around Holiday 2026, if everything goes according to plan and no delays happen on the way.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will be one of the biggest upcoming Sony releases and Naughty Dog's first major release since The Last of Us Part 2 in 2020.
It took the studio a while to make their next big thing but given Naughty Dog's pedigree, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet should be worth the wait.
