The Last of Us Part II Remastered has been updated to include enhancements for the PlayStation 5 Pro, making it the first game to offer such enhancements before the console's release.

An update just arrived for The Last of Us Part II Remastered, which has cemented the game as the first-ever title with enhancements to include the PlayStation 5 Pro - well before the console itself releases.

Although the PS5 Pro isn't due to launch until November 7th, the PS5 Pro Enhanced version of The Last of Us Part II Remastered is already live.

Support for these optimizations arrived courtesy of the 1.2.0 update, but there's some suggestion that Sony hasn't been entirely candid about just what graphical enhancements the PS5 Pro version boasts.

Sony billed the PS5 Pro as capable of running The Last of Us Part II Remastered in a Pro mode that delivered visuals comparable to the Fidelity mode, but with a silky-smooth 60 fps.

Sony was being very careful with its wording, stating that this output is "comparable," rather than "identical," since the Pro mode does not natively render the game at 4K resolution, as does the Fidelity mode.

Instead, it runs at 1440p and leverages the PlayStation's Spectral Super Resolution technology to upscale that image to 4K.

This shouldn't be a cause for concern, however, there is quite a minor difference between the native 4K and upscaled with PSSR at 1440p that you may even need to break out a magnifying glass to see.

Still, the first game with official PS5 Pro enhancements technically doesn't offer native 4K gaming at 60 frames per second.

Going even further, this is a game conceived on decade-old hardware in the form of the PlayStation 4, to say nothing of how such upgrades complicate things.
