Yes, it's hilarious that The Last of Us franchise has more remasters than sequels but at least the upcoming The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is bringing additional content which by the looks of it, will be worth the $10 you have to pay to upgrade your existing copy.
Sony confirmed earlier that the game will feature slightly improved visuals and a brand-new, roguelike game mode among other things. This new roguelike mode is obviously the biggest highlight and today, we have first details on what exactly it brings, thanks to the information posted on a Linkedin profile of one of the Naughty Dog employees.
According to info, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered's roguelike No Return mode could launch with 12 different levels, at least that's what the developer was working on.
"Created, implemented, and tested Al dialogue regions in-engine across 12 different No Return roguelike level layouts in The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered," it's stated in the description on LinkedIn.
Now, keep in mind that this does not necessarily mean all 12 levels will be in the game on launch. It's highly likely that Naughty Dog decided to scrap some of these levels during the optimisation process. On the other hand, it's also possible that we'll get these 12 and some extra levels. The truth is that we don't really know the exact number at this point so hopefully, Naughty Dog provide official info very soon.
These roguelike levels should obviously be the levels we've seen in the base game. Naughty Dog will probably take some of the specific areas like Hillcrest and Arcade and with minimal adjustments turn these into a roguelike experience.
All in all, we're definitely excited to see more of this new mode and how Naughty Dog worked their magic to deliver something different than what we usually get from the studio.
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered launches with the No Return roguelike mode on January 19, 2024, for PlayStation 5 only. A PC port of the game is yet to be announced but we expect to hear more about that soon.
