Developer 314 Arts has revealed NightRunner, a co-op game that combines horde survival gameplay with PvE extraction mechanics. NightRunner drops players into a solar apocalypse where players take on high-risk jobs gathering loot and try to escape with their lives.
NightRunner players, known as NightRunners, work cooperatively to complete dangerous scavenging runs, each job becoming riskier as players choose to further themselves for better loot.
NightRunner is launching on PC in 2027 with its first public playtest beginning this September.
Defend Your Train, Extract With Your Loot
NightRunner centres around scavenging runs where each team has a wagon that they use as a moving base. Along “Train Jobs”, teams can stop at scavenging zones to find guns, resources, repair and reinforce their train for the next battle.
At some point though, the team must extract by reaching an extraction point with their train. Mutants can ambush the team while en-route, forcing players to choose how to manage repairs, prioritize wagon defence and think tactically while the wagon is under attack.
Choosing the right combination of Runner Kits can mean the difference between life and death. There are four kits to choose from, with each focusing on a unique playstyle between combat, scavenging and supporting your team.
Four Distinct Modes
NightRunner will feature four distinct modes:
- Train Jobs: The core of NightRunner that blends elements of scavenging, combat, and train protection.
- Transition Jobs: Cross post-apocalyptic waters on a military-style ship as mutants attempt to attack your convoy. There are no scavenging stops, so players need to make do with what they’ve got.
- Dungeons: Fixed linear levels filled with dangerous mutants, powerful bosses, and some of the best loot in-game.
- Endless: As implied, players enter endless survival. Fight as many waves as possible as your score climbs higher.
NightRunner features rogue-lite elements but with permanent progression. As you level up your Runner-Tech with permanent unlocks, you’ll be able to tackle harder jobs and become stronger.
NightRunner will launch on PC in 2027. You can get into the first public playtest this September.
