The Mounts of Mayhem update is out now, continuing the game’s trend of hefty, content-rich patches. This summer’s expansion, which launches today, overhauls Minecraft’s mounts and traversal while adding more challenging foes to face.
Players that prefer moving, riding, and fighting to crafting, building, and farming will have a lot to love in Mounts of Mayhem.
Mobility and mounts have never been more important in the Overworld, with more capable and versatile weapons and gear than ever before. There are lots of new elements for players to discover, tackle, and enjoy. Read on to learn more about what’s new, changed, and expanded in Mounts of Mayhem.
New Spear weapon
The spear is a brand new weapon in Mounts of Mayhem that functions as a versatile tool for close and mounted combat. Charge attacks deliver extra power and range, and damage output scales with the player’s momentum.
Players will be able to charge into groups of enemies and take them on with a weapon that lets them strike from a variety of distances.
Enchanting the spear will unlock the Lunge enchantment, which is exclusive to the weapon. Attack while charging and the player will be launched forward, deepening their commitment and bringing new dodge and strike options. The longer the player is enchanted, the further they will be pushed.
Zombie Mounts
Players will discover two types of Zombie Mounts in Mounts of Mayhem, which are exciting for both the new combat and mount taming options they provide. Zombie Horses are the first variant, roaming the world as passive mobs with zombie riders.
Conquering the rider in combat will make it drop its mount, which the player can then tame and ride. The zombie nautilus is another new mount that rides underwater and is fully rideable after being tamed.
Zombies of the drowned variety and wielding tridents are their riders, which must be killed to unlock taming opportunities. The pufferfish is the only mountable food item that will win the nautilus over.
Camel Husks and new daytime combat challenges
Camel Husks are a new enemy type with interesting behaviors that will start appearing in the Overworld. The mobs technically spawn as passive entities, but two hostile variants attack them upon spawning: a camel rider with a spear and another camel rider with a bow.
The most dangerous aspect of Camel Husks is that they are not affected by the sunlight. Players can be attacked by them during the daytime, making them unpredictable enemies that are dangerous whenever they appear.
Three new rideable underwater Mounts
Mounts of Mayhem will introduce a few different mounts for underwater traversal, including the nautilus, zombie nautilus, and coral zombie nautilus. Once a player has tamed one of these, they can be used for fast movement in water environments. Tamed underwater mounts maintain the player’s air supply underwater.
