Piranha Games may be the next developer studio to jump the Steamship since the FAQ for MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries was recently purged of all references to Steam or Valve, just under two months before it releases on 10 September 2019.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries seems to be heading to a world of PR pain for the next few weeks as Piranha Games recently "updated" their official FAQ by removing all references to Steam. You can compare the and the and see for yourself.

There is barely any doubt now that Piranha are taking the game to reinforce some other storefront which, means that the game will not be on Steam and it only remains to be seen whether they will honour the pre-orders that were already placed.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries was originally in June 2018 when Russ Bullock, president of Piranha Games, announced that the developers are "confident and assured that [they] will get 100 per cent support from MechWarrior fans to release the best product possible".

Now, the product may or may not be better than it was a year ago but fans are definitely not going to like their choice of the platform being taken away. If Mercenaries indeed ends up being an exclusive, Bullock's statement will have aged as well as an egg in the Sahara sun.

To make matters more interesting, even pre-order beta mentions have been removed from the new FAQ which makes it look like Piranha will break two pre-order promises instead of just one.

While MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries delay was announced half a year prior, the actual 10 September 2019 was announced on 3 December 2018.

It is possible that the game will end up on Microsoft's storefront, or even Epic Game Store, depending on what sort of deal the developers and publishers may or may not have with either of the two.

MechWarrior fans are about not getting their game on Steam but it's really all of the gaming community that should be worried about developers and publishers pulling a bait and switch on their customers as soon as they smell a " ".
