The release date for MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries has finally been revealed on MechCon 2018 by the developer Piranha Games. The game is set to release on 10 September 2019 for PC with four-player co-operative multiplayer and full mod support.
Ten years after the original announcement, MechWarrior fifth instalment will finally see the light of the day on 10 September 2019 it's been confirmed by the developer on MechCon 2018.
MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries was scheduled for 2018 release but Piranha Games delayed the game into 2019 saying they want to deliver the best possible MechWarrior experience as this will be the first game since 2002's MechWarrior 4: Vengeance.
The game will launch with four-player co-op and full mod support. Piranha Games' CEO Russ Bullock said they wanted to focus on the campaign leaving MechWarrior Online to those who prefer PVP combat.
Piranha Games also shared new gameplay which includes locations and destructible environments. Bullock said it was very important for the team to add destructible buildings to MechWarrior 5 as it was always a fantasy for players to obliterate structures.
BattleMech's will be able to destroy the smaller building just by walking through them while the taller ones will be left as skeletal structures.
MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will be set during the Third and Fourth Succession Wars in the series' universe. Players will be able to choose their contracts, in which part of the galaxy to act and how to manage resources and upgrade their units.
For the game that was scheduled for a 2018 release, it's a bit odd to delay it for almost a whole year. On the other hand, at least the development team will have enough time to make it right and add further improvements and optimisations, which will hopefully lead to a smooth launch.
The first MechWarrior game was released way back in 1989 and it offered the players a chance to pilot a BattleMech. It was a critically acclaimed title and many reviewers praised it as a perfect combination of combat simulation and RPG elements.
