Cyberpunk 2077 seems to be racking up victim after victim, with yet another December launch pushed back into 2021. It's a double whammy this time, with MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries' Steam and DLC launch both delayed, but there's good news.

Piranha Games were pretty open about the reasons behind the delay of MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries' Steam and GoG launch, which also includes the launch of Heroes of the Inner Sphere DLC.

"Any developer wants their titles to get as much attention as possible, and obviously sharing a release date with Cyberpunk was less than optimal. Day one sales and marketing are so important to a successful product launch, and we believe that rescheduling our release date will allow MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries to have the opportunity and attention it deserves", they said.

In attempting to fulfil what they claim is their longstanding dream, i.e. simultaneously ship across multiple platforms and deliver a modern MechWarrior game to console gamers worldwide, the team settled on Spring 2021 as the best choice.

The good news is that MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is coming to Xbox Series X, S and Xbox One consoles. Piranha reminded that this is the first MechWarrior on a console since 2004, which is ancient history in gaming terms.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries' release on Steam, GoG, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store and Xbox means it's the end of Epic exclusivity, which drew quite a bit of criticism.

Piranha vowed to make the Spring 2021 launch more than worth it, with improvements to the MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, its AI, UI, art, customisation and content.

"There will be no impact on our MechWarrior Online initiatives, and in fact this will likely benefit MWO in the long run by bringing more eyes to our multiplayer PvP MechWarrior experience. By the release of MW5 in Spring 2021, we should be well on our way towards implementing significant updates to MWO, including exciting improvements to the new player experience, making sure we’re ready for new players", the team added.
