Microsoft has confirmed all players will be need a Microsoft account and Xbox Gamertag to play Halo: Campaign Evolved. This is so players progress with campaign milestones, collectibles, customisation options, and shared checkpoints can be synced across all supported platforms. Existing Xbox Gamertag holders will simply need to sign into their Microsoft account when the game launches for the first time.

Steam users will be required to link their Steam account to a Microsoft account upon setup. Doing this will enable players to view Xbox friends lists as well as play cross-platform multiplayer.

Once both accounts are linked you’ll be able to invite friends on any platform via their Xbox Gamertag. Friends that are on the same platform as you will be listed separately from cross-play friends in the Play Co-op menu. This makes it easy to squad up with friends no matter what platform everyone is on.
